Meet Christine

Hello everyone and thanks for visiting my blog! I've never been good at these introduction things, so I'll just jump right in. I'm 21 and married to my best friend, and together we have two sweet babies, one boy and one girl-to-be (due in March!). I like reading, writing, playing video games, and finding ways to be silly with my babies. Oh, and BAKING.

I haven't been baking for a real long time. I only started taking it seriously after I got married in December of 2010. Before this point, I had always just used mixes and honestly never thought of any other way to do it. But there's something empowering about creating something from scratch, isn't there? I guess that's what drew me to baking at first. To this day, there's nothing like seeing someone take a bite of something you've made yourself and watching their eyes light up. (Not to mention, always having something delicious sitting around the house!)

The purpose of this blog isn't to show you how talented I am, I still have LOTS to learn - but I'm getting better every day. I'm doing this blog because maybe there's someone out there who, like me, doubts themselves a little bit, but wants to try anyway. I'm putting it all out there - my successes, of course, but also my failures. My pictures aren't always top-quality (and a lot of that has to do with the lighting in my house, to be fair to myself) and my decorating techniques still have a long way to go. But I have fun doing this stuff. When it stops being fun, I'll stop doing it.

Something that I keep hearing is that I should start my own business. Everyone who tastes my stuff loves it, and I like the idea of having my own bakery. How cool would that be? But I couldn't think of a name for the longest time. Nothing sounded right.

One day, my mom took some of my sugar cookies to work with her. Her coworkers loved them and one even said that they were "beyond bakery good". After hearing that, it seemed that Beyond Bakery was the right name for me and my business, so it stuck.

I am still working on getting a business going, but in the meantime I am continuing to learn new things every time I bake. There is so much more to baking than just putting a pan in the oven and setting a timer. I have learned a lot about the science of baking and about myself, as well. For a long time I didn't feel like anything I made was good because I compared it to the work of others. It took me a while to realize that there will ALWAYS be someone better than me out there, and that's okay!

So anyway, keep an eye out for Beyond Bakery in the future! I hope to have lots of big things happening.
